Last week saw cold temperatures in Kansas, but cold weather can persist into May and even June. On May 1st, 1909 the low temperatures stretched across the state. Wallace had the lowest, with a minimum temperature of 14 °F. St. Francis had a low of 17 °F, while temperatures at Dodge City, Hugoton, Ulysses, Scott City, and even Greensburg dropped to 19 °F. Still, the first of May isn’t the latest for those extremely low temperatures. On May 15th, 1907, the low temperature at Hays dropped to 17 °F. Now THAT is cold for May.
