This year all of the conversation has been about the unusually cold start to the year. But April can see an amazing range of temperatures. On April 23, 1989 both Salina and Liberal sent record high temperatures. At Salina, the high was 105 °F. At Liberal, the high was 103 °F. The high of 105 degrees at Salina KS established an April record for the state of Kansas. Even with those highs, April of 1989 wasn’t the warmest. It averaged 57.2 °F. The warmest April was in 1981 when the average temperature was 61.4 °F.
