In the middle of the heat wave we are experiencing, it might be nice to remember how cold it can get in June. The national record occurred on June 13, 1907. The temperature at Tamarack California dipped to 2 above zero. The high that day was 30 degrees. Tamarack received 42 inches of snow between the 10th and the 13th, and on the 13th the snow depth was 130 inches! Obviously, in Kansas things aren’t QUITE that extreme. The coldest low temperature for Kansas was 28 degrees reported at Norton Dam, in Norton County, on June 6, 1998.
