Winter weather is still a possibility in Kansas. In 1989, strong storm system brought blizzard conditions to far western Kansas during the morning and afternoon hours. Winds of 40 to 60 miles per hour and temperatures in the lower 20s were featured along with the snow. Visibilities were reduced to under 1/2 mile due to the blowing and drifting snow. Snowfall amounts were generally in the 1 to 3-inch range with 4 to 7 inches in portions of southwest Kansas near Garden city. Many roads in the area were closed during the storm.
