April 1st is April Fool’s Day, when pranksters like to play tricks. The weather can play tricks on us as well. The warmest temperature reported on April 1st was 97 °F, reported at Ashland, in Southwest Kansas in 1946. Cold temperatures are also a possibility. The Cedar Bluff Dam station reported a low of just 6 °F on April 1st, 1987. Given that cold weather is still possible, it isn’t surprising that snow has also been recorded on the date. Greatest total on record for April 1st: 11 inches at Herrington in 1970. And thinking of those April Showers, record rainfall for April 1st: 4.80 at both Parsons and Walnut in Southeast Kansas in 1988.
